Scholars in Engineering And Management (SEAM)
Today, intense competition is forcing companies to find new ways to deliver innovative products and services to market faster and cheaper. This need is breaking down the barriers that separated the engineering and business functions replacing these antiquated structures with cross-functional teams composed of engineering and management personnel.
The SEAM program is designed to complement your chosen business or engineering major. The program brings together undergraduate business and engineering students to participate in an integrated program in which students learn from each other. As a SEAM Scholar, you are eligible to enroll in specially designed, led by an interdisciplinary faculty, courses that will challenge you to excel and expand your professional horizons by working in cross-functional teams with other high achievement-oriented students.
SEAM students are eligible for small cohorted classes with top faculty members in each of the colleges. Further, students receive personal advising and support from college co-directors. SEAM students are also eligible for priortity registration.

Eligibility
The Scholars in Engineering and Management (SEAM) program is open to exceptional first year business and engineering students who seek to develop a comprehensive understanding of the new business and technology models dominating today's marketplace.
To be eligible for admission into the SEAM program, you must be incoming freshmen with an unweighted high school grade point average of 3.5 or above or have an ACT score of 28 or higher (or SAT score of 1240 or higher). Students who meet the above criteria are invited to apply to the program by filling out a short application form. Enrollment in the program will be limited to 40 business and engineering students. In addition to academic performance, applicants will be evaluated on their leadership experiences, interest in engineering and management, and ability to work in team settings.
Freshman Year
Learning About Technology Together
As a Scholars in Engineering and Management (SEAM) student, you have the opportunity to live in Ingels Hall and participate in The SEAM LLC, a living learning community for students interested in engineering and business.
During the fall semester, you will take Technology: Blessing or Curse? -a course that uses the acclaimed PBS seriesConnections as a blueprint to explore the surprising twists and turns that technological innovation has taken through the centuries and its impact on the very fabric of society. In the Spring semester, the focus turns to learning leadership and teamwork skills in the experientially-based, hands-on Leadership course. Additionally, you will take a special section of Principles of Economics to learn about the foundations of business.
Sophomore Year
Your sophomore year will focus on understanding the context in which business and technology operate. In The Engineering Enterprise students will gain an understanding of how engineering and technology are fundamental to successful companies. During this year you will begin to prepare for the team environment by taking Communication in Small Groups.
Junior Year
Understanding Real-World Processes
In your junior year, your attention turns towards organizational processes. In the Fall, the Gatton College of Business and Economics will assist you in finding an Internship in a high-technology organization in order to gain insight and real-world practice before embarking on your own project in your senior year. In the Spring, you will take Lean Systems to learn how to engineer better business processes and remove waste by using state-of-the-art simulation software and problems drawn from industry
Senior Year
Delivering
to Market 
In your senior year, you will be asked to show that you can get it done. In From Concept to Market,the school will take you through the new product or service development process from idea generation to market launch. You will then get to practice these skills in our New Solutions Studio where you will work in small teams with a sponsoring company on some aspect of bringing a new concept to market.
Living-Learning Community
Gatton students are encouraged to live on-campus as part of the Business and Engineering Living-Learning Community, The SEAM Community.
The SEAM Community is a residence hall community that brings college learning into the everyday lives of students. They offer students the opportunity to live with other students who share common interests. These communities offer special programming in the residence hall and opportunities to interact with UK faculty and staff who are affiliated with the Living-Learning Community.
